Raspberries

We grow more raspberries than anything else, because we like them so much.

Raspberries grow on shoots, called canes, which grow out of the ground each year. There are two sorts of Raspberry. Summer ripening Raspberries form on the canes which grew the year before. Autumn ripening ones form on canes which grow in the spring and summer. You can see both sorts in the garden.

Summer Raspberries

In mid March the canes are bare. Leaf buds appear at the end of March

Last year's canes have ben cut away and new ones grow in the spring.
