Mr Radcliffe's School Garden

Pests

We have lots of them! Here are just a few.

Slugs and snails eat plants near the ground especially the radishes and young bean plants

Snail Slug

Greenfly and blackfly suck juices out of tender plants. They are often looked after by ants who like the sweet fluid they give out.

Blackfly Greenfly

Birds love fruit, especially raspberries and strawberries.

Blackbird

Blackbirds are the worst. So we put all the soft fruit inside a fruit cage. They still sometimes get in.

Rabbits and Deer. We have rabbits living by the stream.

Rabbit

Rabbits eat most plants and can dig a long way. We found a rabbit hole inside the fruit cage!

Some bugs are good. Ladybirds and this shield bug eat greenflies.
