Leeks

Leeks

Leeks are menbers of the onion family but pruduce a long stem instead of a bulb. They produce seed in the same way with a ball of seed on top of a long stem.

They are hardy plants and are best eaten after the first frosts of Autumn. They will last until Spring.

I've taken some pictures of them growing. Watch how things change as you go down the page. Click on the pictures to see bigger pictures!

The seeds are sown in a seed tray or straight into a seedbed outside.

As soon as they are big enought they are put into rows outside.

By Autumn they should be big enough to eat.
