Gooseberries

Gooseberries

We have six Gooseberry bushes in the fruit cage next to the hedge. They don't really need to be in the fruit cage so we have four new ones growing in the second vegetable patch.

We use the gooseberries for jam and crumbles. They are a bit sour so you need lots of sugar.

The bushes have very sharp thorns so be careful.

I've taken some pictures so you can see how they grow. Click on the pictures to see bigger pictures!

Mid March. No leaves yet. Look at the manure around each bush. Do you know why its there?

By the end of March the leaves are coming out.

During April the flowers came out and small Gooseberries formed. You can still see the remains of the flower.
