Cucumbers

Some types of cucumbers grow out of doors but most like the heat of a greenhouse. The plants can get very large and climb all over the greenhouse. One year we got about 80 cucumbers from one plant!

I've taken some pictures of them growing. Watch how things change as you go down the page. Click on the pictures to see bigger pictures!


The seeds were planted in mid March in compost in small pots. They need to be kept very warm to germinate.		This is how they looked at the beginning of April
Two plants were put into the greenhouse at the end of April. By mid May the first flowers and tiny cucumber had appeared.
By the beginning of June the first cucumber was nearly ready and the other plant had three flowers.
